Barton, Goosnargh, Whitechapel, Chipping and Thornley WIs contributed 'tested recipes' for this recipe book to be sold at the Longridge, Grimsargh and Chipping Agricultural Show in August 1944 in aid of the Red Cross. The Newspaper advertisement for the show is quite blurred but they certainly planned a show 'bigger, better, brighter than ever!' with music by the Home Guard Military Band. There was even a 'Grand Annual Show Ball' in the village institute at Goosnargh. The Lancashire Evening Post reported that there were over 1,000 entries of a very high standard. 'Rarely has a better cattle section been seen than at Goosnargh this morning'. You can open the recipe book and newspaper articles below.
